2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

My brown african goose just laid a egg so I popped it in the incubator making it in total 8 African eggs and 1 mystery egg (hopefully African!) .

Genetics is always fun! This is for Buff African and Toulouse geese and Brown African and Toulouse geese.

First mating
Brown African gander X Buff African goose = ALL Brown offspring

Brown ganders carry buff genetically [call this B/B1]

Brown geese DO NOT carry buff genetically speaking

Second mating
B/B1 gander X Buff African goose = 1/2 males AND 1/2 females Brown

and 1/2 males AND 1/2 females Buff

OR

B/B1 gander X pure Brown female = All males Brown

1/2 females Brown AND 1/2 females Buff

AND

Buff gander X pure Brown female = All ganders Brown [this is B/B1]

=All geese Buff

(Also works for Dewlap Toulouse).

I have 2 buff African ganders with a buff female and 2 Brown African females meaning any brown goslings that hatch in the incubator will be male.
Exciting stuff!

Looks like the wall of my living room,

I have a grey split to buff gander and a buff gander in the dewlap Toulouse. A grey and a buff goose for each of them this year and I'm not good at genetics.

I only understand the buff and grey genetics that's about it
I think it's really fun and interesting!
Using this system I can create different buff bloodlines :D

Ruined their swimming session to get a few pictures :)

The weather is finally getting warmer and a bit dryer.
No sign of grass growth just yet!

Big Joe and Sloppy Joe both suffered from wet feather this winter making them look naked
(only in the wing feathers though
