This is my very, very special boy, Freddee, a Rhode Island Red Rescue Rooster, who is probably around 5 years-old now. His beak was clipped too short as a chick(a barbaric, but apparently somewhat common, practice to prevent them from pecking each other, I have been told), so he was skinny & could barely eat, when he was found wandering around a warehouse parking lot, near the Fort Lauderdale Airport. He didn’t crow for several weeks, so he was likely only a few weeks or months old, & I didn’t know if he was a boy, but, luckily, he was, since he was already named Fred. He is about 8 & a half pounds of sheer cuteness now, & he knows many words & commands, & I would say that he is smarter than most dogs, with the intelligence & temperament equivalent to about that of a human toddler. He is my baby boy, & I love him more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything, as he is the most pure & wonderful source of joy that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. He sleeps in a dog crate in the kitchen, doesn’t violate our noise ordinance(between 11pm & 7am), the neighbors all love him, & he even knocks with his beak on the metal part of the porch screen door to be let in!! He has a whole big yard to himself, off of a golf course, with plenty of dirt spots, & flora & fauna to explore. He is protective of me & our yard, & will chase critters out, with the threat of his formidable spurs. Occasionally, like any toddler/baby, he gets a little wound up & cranky, & lunges for my shoes, but it’s rare & almost always because I let him out of his box too late, so it’s my fault, & I can’t be mad at him...! He will stop in his tracks with a pointed finger & a loud “NO,” so he listens, & quickly forgives, after he’s gotten some yummy treats. :) It’s like living with a funny li’l feathery dinosaur, or Velocirooster, as I like to call him. And, I don’t tell him what to do, but I tell him his options for what he can do, &, then, he decides. He even tells on himself when he poops on the floor inside, by guarding it & whining & looking up at me & then back at it, so I see it, because he knows I don’t want either of us to step in it!! Like I said, he’s a very, VERY special(, smart & sweet) boy, & I don’t actually know if these pics are the right size, since Pictorem link in instructions wasn’t working for me, but I just had to share my love for my very good boy, Fred The Rhode Island Red Rescue Rooster, with you all, anyway...enJoy! :-D
