-43C without any windchill, don’t blink your eyelashes freeze together! Hahaha.
I have a nice big barn but if it gets down below -25C I leave the horses inside to try and keep it warm in there. Last winter we didn’t have one single day below -8C and hardly any snow - it was so nice. I bet this year will be a good old fashioned winter. I am already planing what to do with the silkies and OEGB. My Hen House is insulated so the birds keep it warm enough with their body heat, as long as it’s not below -20C outside.
If it get too cold I have a radiant heater with a thermostat I can pop in there, keep it at +5C.
I find they are fine to -10C but below that they get cold stressed. I use a sweeter heater and a Cozy Panel so they can snuggle up to warm up.
The manure pile is their fav location in winter
