Just 3 eggs doesn't really give you a chance - if you work on 50% hatch and another 50% being a cockerel

Do you have a local farmers market? Go and chat to the people with a few eggs to sell - I bet they've got a cockerel running with their hens. Do a deal!!

well ive been on ebay,,, and found some one 15miles away from me ,,theve got some copper black maran eggs £1 each..bargain i think i pick them up wednnesday ..its stupid but i never knew you could limit your search for local only ,,and im the ebay king..

Copper blacks are gorgeous. I have them here. Don't even bother trying to candle the eggs before day ten. They are so dark you really can't see what is going on before then.

I've set copper marans as well, last Wednesday, my eggs are so dark I don't think I'll bother candling them!

right so here we go again..one egg has pippd and i can hear cheerping, the only thing the incubater is at my sisters house .she noticd a crack in the shell around 12.30pm so i went round after work to have look..ive just rang her for an update and she said shes sat there gorping over them ..{shes as bad as me} any way as we were talking she said another bit of shell dropped off ,,its now 7pm so im off round with my kids to have a look...not long now {touch wood}ps.. its the buff orp egg

good luck mate! Its probably good the incubator is somewhere where you cant open it constantly! Good idea for all of us to resist temptation!

well the buff orp is hatched and in the brooder,,i help it a long a bit out of the shell..and now one of the copper marans is trying to get out.. its been about 12 hours now..the incubater isnt really designed well for them to get out ,,as it has got a half egg mould at the bottom for the eggs to sit in ..so the egg cant roll around for them to get out..its really cramped in there to..2 out of 3 aint bad, so far{touch wood}
