My Silver Lakenvelder 21 week old hen started laying 8 days ago she was laying one every other day, but today she surprised me and laid one today after laying one yesterday. However after laying today she I noticed a couple of hours later that she was not hanging with the flock instead laying down in various places in the yard even letting me go up to her love on her (which she never did unless I actually caught her :)). Is she just tired after working so hard or should I be worried. She did get up and go into the coop at dusk when the others headed in, but seemed to be walking a little odd..maybe wobbly but no falling.

It sounds as if she may have an egg stuck in the chute. Feel under her vent. Do you feel an egg there? If you take some coconut oil and insert it just inside the vent, it may help lubricate the tissues so the egg will slid out.

Also, it would help to rig up a heating pad under a nice soft towel in a small pet crate and place her on it. Turn it to the medium setting. Leave her in a quiet place, but not in the dark, for an hour and see what happens.

If an egg doesn't come out, you may need to don a latex glove, lubricate a finger and try to dislodge the egg, careful not to break it.
