22 chicks hatched and only 3 of them were males. What would cause this?

Are you using ACV in your chicken's water? If so, that could be your culprit. ACV has been used for some time by those who wish more female offspring...worked on my hatches, worked on my meat/4-H show rabbits and seems to work in the professional horse racing community...they've been using this technique for years also. I've even read about a sheep farmer that has an 85% return on ewe lambs since starting to use ACV in the water.

thats interesting to know

i just got 5 litres and got a load of breading pairs

may try it an see what happens

Doesn't hurt to try, huh?

I found it to be pretty consistent.

I'm not one for measuring....I just throw a glug in the waterer every time I fill it.

If the waterer is a small one, I use a small glurp but if it's a biggun', I use a full on glug!

The way that I cook and also the way I add ACV to my pigeon waterers. Scientific? NOT!

They Apple Cider Vinegar option is really interesting. Do you know of any studies about how it works, or how effective it is?

I heard that eggs stored at lower temps than usual can cause an outcome of more females, because the male side of whatever influences gender dies off. I don't know it it would mean all the male chicks wouldn't develop/hatch, or if it means they would hatch females, but I think i read this off of mypetchicken.com.

I remember a thread on here a while back about someone only hatching eggs from one hen and getting all pullets. I also was talking to the guy I bought my chickens from and he told me his billy goat produces mostly girls, and very few boys.
