I can't hate any of Gods creations - they serve their purpose here just like everything and everyone else.....even when they kill my livestock but that just means that I get to love a fuzzy racoon rug or hat or gloves

LOL They are so cute you would never guess just how vicious they can get when they feel threatened.

e. Keep your dogs and chickens in separate areas.

Or get a better dog.

I free range most of my birds during the day. My dog has easy access to all of them. She has never hurt a single one.

The turkeys think she is one of them. When she naps they come and lay down next to her. Probably the safest place on the farm.

We started having trouble when the baby raccoons were out and about. I really think the only reason they got into our coop is because they were smaller than adult. But they still killed a hen...

I'll join.. We haven't had any poultry losses to raccoons, but figured out yesterday that they'd made massacre of our sweetcorn during all the rain we've had lately.

I even had a livetrap out..

I'll join, but choose to be "eccentric" I hate them, but think they are adorable-looking.

Coon story:
The first time I owned chickens (I knew next to nothing besides have a coop with a door and ask the feedstore for food) I forgot to close the door one night... My 3 chickens were feather piles by morning. I'm pretty sure it was (a) raccoon(s) that did the dispatching.

Sorry about your loss from the coons, they are very aggressive. I am in the process of building a predator proof coop for my Marans. I am constantly trapping coons near or in my barn and shooting them. Good luck and keep at it.

This is our problem every year. Now that we have chickens we got a good live trap and have burried 14 coons this summer alone. Hopefully no sweet corn raiding and the chickens are locked in every night to the coop, not just the run, so fingers crossed they wont get in there.

I don't hate them. Try raising an orphaned baby one, that may (or may not) change your mind

I keep my coop secure, and it's practically outside my bedroom window, so I would know if something was trying to get in.
