23 weeks and no eggs

they should still start even during winter, mostly, they will lay less often, but they will lay, even if you don't provide additional lighting.
I know lots of people will say that the common starting point of lay is between 16-20 weeks, but most often it's significantly later, like 25-30 weeks, and even later... hang in there, they will come.

I cooked the first one right away because I couldn't wait for a taste. We all got one small bite. Yummy! I will never forget our first egg.

I have been thinking about getting another hen because I would love to get some blue eggs, but we are at our limit with 4. With our back yard 4 is just right.

first pic, comb is looking almost non-existent... second pic, comb is still wee and pinkish, most likely a few more weeks... can't see their fluffy butts, but the second pic, she still looks "narrow"
my best guess... you have another 3 weeks to wait, maybe 2...
in my 3rd pic above, the pullet on the left is laying, the pullet on the right (is now) but wasn't laying at the time of the pic, I know you can't see the fluff on her either, but she is noticeably "narrower" than the one on the left... they are the same age, but started laying about 2 weeks apart

Hooray! I got my first egg from americauna today. She turned 23 wks Sunday. Her two sisters are not as ready as she is, but they will be laying soon too. Patience. It is hard but the eggs will come.

you can usually find a few listings on Craigs List, good place to start anyway, you may be able to find someone local to you... also, check the thread for your state, lots of people offer their birds to folks here first, and they are usually a good price or even free... how many hens you need... really all depends on how many eggs you "need"...
