Hey! My 24 hour (+/-) chick is still in the incubator. It's little legs look poorly - IT kind of looks poorly. My plan was to put it in the "nursery" with our momma hen and a week-old-chick today, after this newest chick dried out. Now I'm thinking it could stand to stay in the incubator some more. Can I do that? Or will it being with the momma and other baby possibly help it out?

TIA!

Stacey

Go ahead and give it to the momma. She might can help it some. And this is comeing from another Stacy.

Don't put a new chick in with a mom who already has older babies she won't be happy and she might hurt/kill it. If there are no other eggs pipped in the incubator take the chick out and put it in your brooder not with your hen. Btw it is normal for a day old to be wobbly. Your hen, does she have babies the same age as your day old, or is the week old hers? If she had day olds then you CAN add it with her, if she has week olds I seriously would not do it.:)

I doesn't really matter. I had some day old chicks that I gave to my momma hen and she gladly took them and raised them. Now all her chicks are happy and healthy and she just hatched off some more and we recently gave her some more.
