24 hrs

My group of 11 guineas have been here for 24 hrs and are settling in the coop. One of the things I noticed is that 8 of them are well feathered and groomed and have formed a group. Then the other three have missing feathers and get picked on and seem to hang together.

I'm getting chickens in may and I'm hoping these guineas are trained and free ranging by then. Should I add the three misfits to my chicken group (will be three hens and one roo) once they arrive so they can make their own flock and maybe allow me to call the free ranging guineas home once they are loose or should I just let them all free range when its time?

Hmm. Hope that was clear as mud. Lol!

I would let them free range when it is tome. That way, they can choose where they want to be.

I have found that Chickens like to be with their own. They even prefer the same color and type to be with.
Guineas do not care who they roost with.
they are pretty tolerant of other birds.
I would seperate the flock and put them in different coops or parts of a coop.
guineas are loud and obnoxious when they go to roost.

If you let them all free range you'll find the main group will probably break into smaller packs and those 3 will stick together. Then again....Guineas aren't like chickens...they would rather be in couples with the occasional trio. When they split up for mating season they will more then likely pair and trio up and if the main group doesn't match up perfectly, then the smaller group might join in. Whatever they choose they will probably stay that way till fall when mating is over for the year. The hardest part is going to be while they're cooped up. Keep an eye out and watch that the 3 get enough to eat and don't get hurt....it should be fine!
