25 eggs..4 pips.. will they drown in the water?

Update.. all 19 keets are doing really good...the ones i helped show no signs of being "different".... they are growing feathers and starting to fly!! i cant get over it.. having another hatch today.. 5 so far and 5 trying... half the eggs no pips yet.. its day 27, this hatch is going alot slower, and doesnt seem as good as the last one.. i think the incubator is a little hot. i used the shelf liner this time, works great... i think i have a white one this time... but its pretty wet still, might be just white wings, maybe another blue

hope everyone is doing good in this heat.. how long can the hatched keets stay in the incubator? i know they can go a long time without eating, drinking, but the first one was starting to peck it had been in there since noonish... i took 2 out that were completely dry.. i went through the top, the humidity didnt change a bit, but i am still uneasy for some reason... i will say i dont like hatching in the summer, its too hot, cant not have a light, but it is hard to adjust and wonder how the night will go while I am asleep..

Wow another hatch, you are officially addicted!!!

Congrats on your stressful episode of helping a few with your last hatch working out for you and the keets, glad they all made it, shew!

The newly hatched keets can easily stay in the incubator 24 hours, IMO and experience with hatching it's better to leave them in too long than not long enough... you want their legs, feet and toes to all be straight and working well (the humidity helps this out), PLUS they really do need to be dry and running around before taking them out. And like I mentioned before, a few noisy keets in the incubator helps stimulate the others to hatch.

I agree, summer hatches do not go as well, it's not always the incubator's fault tho... sperm and egg viability are also effected by the high daytime temps, so sometimes not all developing keets are "right" from the get-go

Post pics!

Hi Peeps !! well I have 2 "whites"... they are white with some tan "threads" running through the white.. i will definately get some pictures... there are 7 so far, this is going really slow.... half the eggs no pips ...as far as addicted.. i sure am.. i have 4 more hatches in the next 2 weeks.

I sold 10 of the first 19, and will probably sell some of these, but not for a few weeks.. i turned my adults loose the other day, i couldnt stand to see them penned anymore.. plus i promised the fellow i bought them from that i would not keep them penned.. ive had them several months. there are 7, one male, 6 hens. so they are touring my woods, and im pretty nervous about loosing them.. but they have been coming to their shed to eat, and last night 4 of them roosted in there, the other 3 in a tree... i want to make sure i have a bunch before i sell too many... i also have 8 12 week olds, and i have no plans to let them loose for at least another month.. i cant imagine how i will integrate all these. i plan to build "additions" on the shed we made for the adults, and let them decide if they want to be together or apart. it will take time with so many little ones i would imagine. we will see how it all plays out. im dead tired today, will take pictures of the babies tomorrow.. i have to check the chart and see what these white and tan will be. Have a great day!

Hatch is over... didnt go to well... 12 out of 20... i opened the ones that never pipped... half were quitters, the other half was sad... big giant keets with no room to turn. i felt bad.. but i did get a lavender, another royal purple, and 2 buff of some sort.. will post pics soon... long day. what makes them grow too big? too high humidity?

Well 12 out of 20, isn't too terribly bad, could have been worse. Congrats on your pretty colors tho

I don't really think it's humidity that makes them grow too big... IMO it's either temp fluctuations or just the genetics of the parents

Can't wait to see pics of your "buffs of some sort", lol. I hatched another Coral Blue today... I though the pair in my breeding flock that was producing them was done, because of the heat, but I guess not. I'd have to count them all again, but I think that makes 21 Coral Blues for me this year (Yah, and I am keepin' em ALL, lol)

Good luck with your future hatches, hope you have a better hatch rate with them! I want some of your seabrights and seremas! (I'm trying REALLY hard not to go beyond 100 Guineas, 2 PeaHens and a Turkey, but dang there's so many pretty birds and great egg layers out there it's gettin tuff to hold myself back, lol).

well i lost the 12th guinea.. wasnt surprised... it didnt look too peppy yesterday. i kept dipping its beak, but it wasnt meant to survive i guess.. it was a lavender... the others are doing real good... i do think though that one of my 2 week olds is blind...and i am wondering if it is the one i thought looked "funny" when it hatched... it is really strange, i never noticed anything amiss until yesterday.. i give them ground up (food processor) hard boiled yolks and they go crazy, they are like locusts, they eat all i put in within seconds.. well yesterday i noticed this one hanging back, and just looking up.. it made its way to the dish but it was like it did it because it heard all the others over there.. i picked it up and its crop was full, so i watched it and it really does act blind... today same thing happened.. when i put my hand in the brooder i can get right up to it and it doesnt move.. i put my finger right by its eye, and no response.. i tried holding it up to the light, it didnt blink or anything.. but then i tried one that i know can see and it didnt blink either... im 90% sure its blind, but how can i tell for sure?

I have been trying for 2 days to get a good picture, this is about the best... you cant really see the tan on the white ones.. it must be the camera too close to the brooder lamp.. they are white with tan stripes on the head and back.. on the color chart they look most like the Buff.
