I'm 90% sure I heard the first boy from this batch attempt to crow this morning. I didn't see who it was, but I heard that distinctive "Awwwwwk!" as I was walking back to the house after letting them out into the run.

I hatched my own chicks but I love blue chickens
11/15 I hatched some health food store eggs (4/6) for fun.
I ordered eggs from AL and put in 3 of my own eggs below...they hatched on 11/30
They were BY mixes from AL (crested legbar, BCM) Mine were Blue copper marans... and a blue laced EE rooster...
The next batch were Blue copper marans and a Black NN. So I knew I would have black chicks. 7/8 Dec 9th.
Then my next hatch Dec 21, was 11/11
from Blue bell egger, LO, NN, BCM, and the same EE rooster... I started to get more Blue chicks...
My next hatch New years should be blue since I have mostly LO chicks. I plan on picking through, and keeping the blue ones, and the NN ones, and rehoming the plain black ones. Most if not all will lay a blue egg.

I'm not sure, but I *think* that Ludwig has an echo this morning.
I'll know better later this week because I'm moving the sale pullets and the spare cockerels over to the garden once I redneck up a pen for them.
After the heavy rain stops, that is.

I've put the 3 spare cockerels into a cobbled-together facility on my garden to grow some more and have a chance to be sold before they get eaten.
The last 6 girls being sold are in carriers by the front steps waiting for their new owner, who has sent her husband and son to pick them up.

I still have a bunch of them.
But getting 9 birds out of the coop (6 sold and the spare boys separated), has had a positive impact on the roosting space and *may* get the birds out of the nestboxes overnight.
