Hello,

I have three pullets that are 26 weeks old today. One is a Cotswold Legbar and she started laying 3 weeks ago. The other two are farmyard specials- no idea what sort of mix of breeds they are. They are both different but came from the same place. The big one started laying a couple of weeks ago. The other smaller one hasn't yet. Don't they normally start laying by 26 weeks?

Also, when they start laying do they lay less often and get more frequent as time goes on or is it irregular for a while? We had a good run of an egg most days (between them) for about a week or so but now they've gone to one every 2 or 3 days between them which is a bit disappointing.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've had some start early 24 weeks and then my EE's waited until they were 9 months! I'm sure it won't be much longer.

I didn't mention that these 3 pullets were in with the 3 cockerels from that hatch. The three cockerels went last week (they were so noisy I just couldn't keep them any longer). I wonder if they are adjusting to not having the cockerels anymore and that's why the other two's egg production has gone down. The non layer was very close to one of the cockerels so maybe it will take her a little longer to adjust and this might delay her coming into lay. Will cross fingers and see what happens.
