~27 Eggs Day 21~ Hatch Pics added!

I bought an LED flashlight just for candling. It was like $12 at Lowe's.

I think I had set my camera to the self portrait setting or the close up (less than 28 inches) setting.

Today is Day 6!!

Today's day 7, I haven't candled for today, and haven't decided if I am going to or not??

BUT I am going to do something a teeny weeny bit risky, and hope I don't screw up my hatch!

We went to TSC today and we bought a brand new LG Still air, two egg turners, and the fan to make the still air a forced air.

Ended up taking the fan unit back out because it would NOT work! DH even double checked the directions and my handwork, and assured me I had installed it correctly. He tried working with it, and nothing. So, we assume the unit was damaged when we bought it. Taking it back tomorrow.

In the meantime, I'm happy using a still air, so I have the new 'bator warming up with the turner in it and waiting for the BBS Orp bantams from needmorechickens! and egg assortment from Gatekeeper to go in it.

Now, for my already in the 'bator eggs, I am really considering attempting to put the other turner in there, so I won't have to hand turn them the rest of this hatch....so wish me luck and I hope I don't screw this up and kill every chick in there!!

I'd wait until the second bator is at temp and then move the eggs into there. Then put the turner in the first bator and once the temp is back up and things are running fine move the eggs back. They should be fine.

I don't want to candle until day 18 but son #3 says, "Dad, if you don't want eggs exploding in the new bator we had better candle at day 10!"

I guess he's right.

I think he reads too much here.

Well, had to toss out 3 clears upon last nights candling. A fourth egg had to be removed because when we came home we found it broke open to the membrane. Not sure what had happened to it, but the chick was still alive inside. It was pretty sad.

Everyone else seems to be just fine, and we are coming to the end of day 8.

I can't bear to candle until at least day 10.... and pray that none blow up before then!

I will be sad to discard, but I imagine it's gonna happen.

Sounds like things are going good. It's weird that the one was cracked open. I wonder if it had an unseeable crack that let go?

It's good that you caught it when you did!

We are on day 12 for my mutts, day 7 for some others, and I had some humidity issues, so I did a quick candling. Only lost one mutt egg.

I lost ALL of my BBS Bantam Orps, one EE, a Buttercup, a Salmon Faverolle, and 2 Frizzles. Sigh.

I have several eggs that looked iffy. These were shipped eggs and the air cells are more to the side of the egg.

I have obvious veining and growth in my Welsummers!

Really hoping they continue to do well!

Can't really see anything in the marans eggs, but it looks like they are developing?

Today is day 17!

We are down to 28 eggs of the original 35. On day 14 we had a two quitters, so they were removed.

The remaining 28 eggs are going strong!!

I'll be taking them off the turner tomorrow and shutting the 'bator tight for the longest 3 day wait ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
