My latest girls waited til 32 weeks to lay their first eggs. What are you feeding them? They need a good balance of layer pellets/crumble and a free choice of oyster shells.

Also I am sure thinks are pretty wonky right now because it is winter and most chickens slow down their laying and it is probably affecting there timing in starting to lay.

Hello all,

Thanks for your responses.

They don't free range so they aren't hiding them on me.

The roosters are already mating with them but they aren't squatting for them. They are still trying to get away.

Some of their combs and wattles have turned brighter red.

They were delivered to me on 6/2 and 6/25 so I'm pretty sure about their ages.

They are eating layer feed. They also have free choice of oyster shell.

I've got almost 40 chickens so you would think SOMEONE would be laying by now!

I even bought 2 laying hens in October and only got 1 egg from them. They move into my coop and guess what... no eggs.

I bet my Cornish X's (at the farm) are going to start laying eggs before these chickens do.

Take care,

Have you given them the 'we're having either dumplings or omlettes' speech??

Hope they come through for you soon! You are living my nightmare - 27 Wks and no eggs...my girls will be 20 wks on Christmas and that's all I want for a present this year! LOL

If it's any consolation, my RIR just laid her first egg yesterday, at 28 weeks. I was just about to write-up a post similar to yours asking everyones opinion and there was an egg in the box when I got home from work! Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I did make a point of showing her one of her cohorts eggs the day before and asking her when her first egg would be coming. She looked really fascinated by it and the rest, as they say, is history!

RIR's, Orps, Cochins and Brahmas are heavy breeds so they have a tendency to start later...
Leghorns, Anconas, Polish, and Andalusians are light framed birds and start earlier.
I would say at least 6 months for your bigger birdies...

Gotcha beat, 35 weeks and no eggs from my bantam cochin pullet. Last time I saw an egg in the nest was mid October from my EE pullet, she laid for maybe a month before she quit. I don't even bother looking daily any more. Just once a week.....nothing.
