275 gal water tank frozen need de icer

while you are here, thank you for all of your help. I have to tell you, the 55 gal plastic drum with the horizontal nipples is working really well. it is below freezing (2-3 degrees) every night. I have only a fish tank heater submerged in it and I do have a 250 watt heat lamp bulb in my barn.. wired to the ceiling.not going anywhere.

I have never had to clean mine in 5 years. nothing is growing in it or green. no odor. it is empty and dry in the summer. not in sun. It has been a blessing. this is the first time it has frozen. everything has frozen this year.
Ahh, ok I just assumed you used it year round. Probably doesn't need cleaning if only used for 3 months a year.
Were in "New England do you live that this would be the 1st year it froze?
Is your barn heated at all? That may be why.

I would still be very careful with a heater in there and it being Plastic, unless you can rig something up that stops it from hitting the sides.

My pond heater has a rock on the bottom with a rope attached to the heater (floating) so it doesn't come close to the sides. as a safety precaution I did this as I don't trust the "bumper" side to stop it from melting anything and my pond is heavy weight fiberglass

BTW, you can get that heater cheaper at Walmart or ebay

we have a 20 gal waterer plastic and he put a heater in it ok fine. The water inside stays fine but the ring on the outside keeps freezing and I have to keep chipping the ice out but at night it freezes solid. Can anyone help that.
