I WILL UPDATE THIS POST WITH ALL HAVES/WANTS AND ITEMS THAT WE NEED. THIS WILL HELP EVERYONE TO FIND WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR
smile.png

If you want to tell people about this, that's fine. Just make sure that (for the safety of yours and other's birds) you do this by word-of-mouth, and it is someone you trust
smile.png
Several of my birds free-range, and I don't want them picking something up.

DATE: June 18, 2011

PLACE: shelleyd2008's horse pasture
(For driving directions, see here---> Driving Directions)

TIME: Arrival after 10 a.m. CST, meal at 12 p.m. CST till ???

WHAT WE NEED:

Canopies or tents for shade
Food
Game ideas
prize/auction/raffle items
YOU!!

There will be a sign-in area, so we can track how many people come!

MENU:
Due to lack of response, this will be a BYOF (bring your own food) event. This means you need to bring burgers/dogs/etc--enough to feed your family--and a dish (salad/dessert) to share. Feel free to bring any 'extras' (chips, drinks, etc).

***Any ideas are welcome for games, prizes, etc.***

You can bring anything for swapping, as long as it is in a cage or trailer. We aren't picky
big_smile.png
You also need to bring a tarp or other type of cover for the table or ground, if you plan on bringing birds. Also, please be sure that your birds are healthy. Several of mine free-range and I don't want my babies to get sick
smile.png

PLEASE BE SURE TO PROVIDE A WATER DISH FOR YOUR ANIMALS. KENTUCKY IN THE SUMMER CAN GET PRETTY HOT!

I will edit here with what everyone is bringing to swap or sell. If you are looking for something, please post on this thread as well.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

1) If you are coming by way of Columbia, you'll want to take Hwy 206 (Fairgrounds Street). You will pass the old Shephard Elementary School, the water tower, and Little Cake will be about 1-2 miles further. You will see a mile marker numbered '1' on the right of the road, and Little Cake is just past that on the left. Purdy Baptist Church is on the right-hand side of Little Cake Rd. When you are on Little Cake, you will come to a Y. Go to the right (down the hill). We are about 3 miles, give or take, on the left. There are no other houses on that side of the road before us, and we have a neighbor directly across from us. So the woods will clear out on both sides of the road, at the same time. Most all of it is wooded until you get here.

2) If you come by way of 206 (or Dunnville Rd by the dogwalk) from Liberty, you will enter at the opposite end of Little Cake Rd than mentioned before. We are about 4 miles down Little Cake from this end, and there aren't many 'landmarks' to speak of. You will pass Little Cake Christian Church on your left, then we are about 1-2 miles further on the right. It is much more populated coming from that end of the road, but the neighbor directly across the road has a plank-wood fence on the front of his property, so that might help.

3) If you are coming by way of Russell Springs, don't follow the directions given by google!! It takes you about an hour out of the way.

Take Hwy 127 out of Russell Springs towards Liberty. You will come to Hwy 76 on your left. Turn left onto 76, and follow that road until you get to a stop sign. The stop sign is the junction of 206 and 76, you will turn left. Go about 3-4 miles down 206, and Little Cake will be on your right. The church (Purdy) is on a curve, it will look like you are going to run right into it! Right before the curve and Purdy Church is Burton's auction house on your left, so you'll know where you are. The road (Little Cake) is on the other side of the church, but it looks almost like it is the parking lot. Basically they are joined. Turn right onto Little Cake then follow the above (#1) directions from there.

Unless you want to go all the way to Columbia before coming back this way!

I'll offer some large fowl chicks for prizes for the kids... say (4) lots of 5 chicks so they have some friends.. If Shelley reminds me to set the eggs in time
roll.png

I can bring as pre order only day old large fowl mix chicks. $1 each
maybe a few bantam chicks depending on how they hatch.. $2 each these are pure
Depending on how they hatch, I may have some buff ducklings, and silver apple yard ducklings..

I'm sure I will have other stuff by then too.

I can offer some LF aprons and quail aprons for prizes or what ever you want to use them for. We're thinking of coming but can't say for sure yet. I can mail you the aprons.

There is somewhere on here that you can get a free ChickenStock banner. I think a chicken piniata would be good for the kids. They can beat it with a big drumstick. Really, a bat made to look like a drumstick. It would just be too funny and would make for some really good pics. Pin the tail on the rooster? I have a basket of feathers that could be donated. Also a childs game. I think raffel tickets for some of the higher end prizes would be good. A prize for who ever traveled the farthest. Everybody should get a ticket or a number when they check in. Use that number if you have extra prizes that havne't geen given out. Just call out a number, they pick out what they want and call another number and just go from there.... That's like a last resort at the end of the day to get all the gifts handed out and hopefully everybody gets at least 1. Nobody leaves without a prize.

Game ideas
Maybe an egg hunt to see how any eggs they can get in their basket. This is an adult game. Not like hunting easter eggs.
The egg in a spoon racing teams. They have to race to their partner with an egg in a spoon with out dropping it. Give the spoon with the egg in it to their partner and they have to race back to the other side. Of course, it will be an uncooked egg
There's the Broody game. The players have to carry around an uncooked egg by how ever means they can without it getting as much as a crack in it. They have to carry it around with them on their person for 2 hours. Creativity plays a huge part in this game and it's good to see what people come up with.

You could let the kids have a frog race or turtle race.

Ask your local merchants if they could donate something to the Chickenstock. Some people also bring things and send things when they can't come. You might get some gift certificates for TSC, Walmart, Dominos Pizza, etc...

I'll get those aprons mailed out to you. I'm working on a few with wing guards. I'll send those too.

So I'd like to do this in June. The 11th is just a date I picked off the top of my head, we can do it the 4th, 11th, or 18th. I wouldn't want to do it later than that cause it will be too hot. Hopefully it won't be too hot early in the month. So let me know which day is best for everyone.

As far as I know I don't have anything on those dates and want to come, assuming gas isn't more astronomical than it already is! I have one canopy and can round up another or so if needed; also have a couple of folding tables, a camp stove, and probably some other stuff. Don't know who else will want to come with me, so 1-4 folks.

Hey Shelley, should I go pick up another Fred Thrasher print to donate for the door prize this year? Don't know which one it will be... Probably the newest release. You know I'll bring a salad/veggie dish and I'll probably make a dump cake for a dessert. If you need anything else let me know.
Hope we have a great turnout... You are so centrally located folks should be able to get there from just about anywhere within a couple hours, from Louisville, Lexington, Williamsburg, Bowling Green, parts of Tenn, etc...

ETA: depending on my girls mood, by that time I may have a mix of some hatching eggs to donate for the drawings: pure Ameraucana from my black Am roo and Boo, my blue Am girl(she lays some beautiful eggs), some EEs(pale blue) Black Am roo over EE, leghorn, and Andalusian, and then Olive Eggers from same black Am roo over BCM, BR, Cochin.

Shelley, can you guess who just got rehomed?
