2nd hen dying

Last week, one died, and right now another is dying. She had yellow custerd poo this morning. I do not know whats wrong, and my father is blaming me because he said we have no rooster, and the other hens are picking feathers. I can not get him in here to look at BYC being he is in his 70's and thinks he knows what is happening. We also getting very lite colored eggs, not brown like usual. They get all huddled up with their beaks pointed in the corner. I am depressed and quit low right now, and scared to death of being yelled at again.

I just buried her. I have read about dieherra. So tomorrow i will take out yogurt, and blueberries and put some scratch on top. They will love that. My dad is unhappy and thinks its all my fault. Thats hard to deal with.

First check them to make sure they don't have other issues such as mites or lice. Do you have anything to worm them with? I would take care of this first and then see what happens. Yogurt is a good start as well. If they are huddled up then they certainly don't feel well. Why are you being blamed for not having a rooster? Not that one is needed. You (I am thinking you already know) don't need a rooster to have hens or for them to lay eggs. How is it your fault?

Well, I can't say what's wrong, but feather picking has nothing to do with having a rooster or not. Feather picking is usually either related to boredom/stress when confined to too small of a coop/run, or to low protein. Do your chickens have ample space? Do your chickens eat a standard layer feed with at least 16% protein? You can always try boosting protein with BOSS, spinach, meat scraps, salmon, etc.
However, your issue doesn't sound like either a space or protein issue. Can you give more information so folks can better help you figure out what's going on?? What are the birds ages? What are they typically fed? Have they been wormed recently? Have you checked them over closely for lice/mites (heavy infestations can seriously weaken birds, which could end up in death, especially if other factors are involved.

Honey this is not your fault. I'm sorry you lost two of your chickens and I want to tell you again it isn't your fault.

We'll stick with you to see if we can find out what is happening. We'll ask a lot of questions but hang in there with us.

--it is NOT your fault your chickens are dying because you lack a rooster. Lack of a rooster doesn't kill chickens.

Its hard to deal with a hardheaded man, I know. Hugs.
