Greetings. i purchased our first black australorp chicks in 2010 raised them up and sold chicks last summer. They are considered our best layers and easy keepers. black irridecent feathers are beautiful. our last years roo was purchased to be turned into a show chicken, i have not gone the show route, but do best to choose the apa standards when i slim down to our base breeding flock for the next season.
we have about 6 hens and one roo currently i think he is handsome too. looking forward to lots of good eggs again. some of our area residents werent familiar with breed, so wondered about them, but now some of the customers i had to "sell the breed too" called back for more or referred a friend to look for black australorps. good choice for yard chickens i think
