2x4 weld wire?

I don't have a coop as heat and humidity are an issue here so I went with hardware cloth all sides and top. Pricey but I feel good about it. Now however I want to build an area for some o shamo and am thinking of 2x4 wire wrapped on the bottom with hardware cloth. Still not sure though.

I was planing to put them up in the coop at night and letting them in the run while we're at work. But I have seen coon out at 10. a.m. before too. hope the dog will run off preps. and he cann't reach the run. John.

If you ask me, GOOD QUALITY (i.e. livestock- not yard-and-garden-quality) 2x4 mesh is nearly as good as the much pricier smaller-holed alternatives, as long as you add something with smaller holes to the lower portion to discourage reach-through problems and lock the chickens into the coop by dusk every day without fail.

I would not even remotely consider it though for a coop left open at night (or for covering open areas OF a coop). It would work fine as long as no weasels or baby coons or young possums or small skunks or minks came by. That is to say, as soon as one DID try to get in, you'd be short some or all of your chickens.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
