2X4 Wire Pen?

You might find three foot to not be enough. They are great jumpers and climbers. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this as well, but I am certin they have. I would place a solid barrer treated wood or sheet metal up to three foot then place the one inch poultry fence the rest of the way to the top. To help keep predators out. A raccoon will tear right through chicken wire.

Just a example

Thanks Daren,

Don't have any coons because of the pyreneese dogs but they will also be in another pen that is wolf proof. I will just wrap it from top to bottom to be sure. I raise a bunch of birds just newer to pheasants so I know too much about preadators! When they get all their colors I will post a pic so y'all can tell me they are mixed breeds!

I don't really care if they are or not but the parrents were purtty!

I think the Pyrenese (sp?) will definately take care of the predator issues, so I would just worry about making something they can't get out of.. remember, with birds that cost as much as these are worth, you don't want to skimp! You really have to own one of these dogs to know what all they can do for a farm, so I doubt much people on this section of the forum are actually going to aknowledge it as a legitimate source of pretection..

Yes, unless you have owned a good pyreneese, you don't know how much work they do especially at night! It is very nice to sleep easy and i have about 30 free range birds on top of all my penned birds. Its funny to watch these dogs even during the day. They won't even let a sparrow land in the yard. I have even seen them jump up from a sleep on one side of the house and jump up and run to the other side and I followed and here comes a cyote still 200 yards away! No more cyotes, bobcats, cougars, coons, opossums, armadillos ect and the turkeys and guineas keep al the copperheads away. They are the best!

You need to feed them RG's a sammich. I've had RG's penned in 2x4 wire for years and never had an escape. My adult reds wouldn't fit through 2x4 wire if you were drivin' 'em with a sledgehammer.

I keep some of my red goldens in 2x4 and have never had a problem, I do have the bottom three foot wrapped in chicken wire to preven reach in from predators. Never had any escapes so far.
