3 1/2 week RIRs hate the feeder!

My almost 4 week old RIRs hate the feeder.
The long one with the holes on both sides.
I actually think that their heads are getting too big. Am I right on this one?
They would rather eat from either my hand, or the feeder without the cover.
I dont dare leave the feeder with no cover, as they would scratch it all out. ( Ask me how I know)

Suggestions from those who have reared many a chick.

yup,, thats a good 1,, or even a bigger like 6"
i use them cheap ones that sit on the ground, and can hold a couple gallons of feed,, even my leghorn roo can eat from it lol

Am I a weirdo? Should I admit to this? I just throw my feed on the ground and they scratch for it.

i use the feeder and the ground,, gives them grit,, so i dont have to buy it

Use an old milk jug. Cut off the front half. Leave the handle so you can tie it up so they don't knock it over. It's big enough so they can get their heads in and out but not big enough for them to get in there and scratch everything out.
