Hi I have 7 orpington chicks. 3 black laced orpingtons that are 3.5 weeks old and 4 chocolate laced orpingtons that are 3 weeks old. I've read that the males mature slower than the females and that you can tell a male by their slow wing and tail development, besides combs and waddles.

I have only 1 of 7 chicks that has noticeably less developed wings (like 1/2 the size) and is slightly bigger than the rest - but could it be possible that I only have 1 roo out of 7 straight run chicks?!?! Any ideas?

No one has noticeably large comb and waddles yet but I'll post some close up photos of those too.

It's a bit early to tell just yet, though I don't see any obvious cockerels. Chicks that are slow to feather are often but not always male. I had a slow-feathering chick in my batch this spring that I was sure was going to be a cockerel, but she was just a late-blooming pullet.

It will be more obvious in a few weeks! Feel free to post more photos.
