Could be from a chicken's toenail as they step on them. I've come across a few of those, too, thought they were getting pecked. But this always and only seems to happen in the "favorite" nest, where multiple hens are trying to all lay at the same time. So I'm pretty sure that's the explanation. Clumsy hens, crowded conditions.I got the 2 duck eggs but one has a small hole in it. I don't know if my chickens are trying to eat them or the ducks or it could just be a predator![]()
My chickens and ducks are free range. The duck eggs are the only eggs that get ate. I'm not believing it's a predator because I would have probably already lost most of my birds.10 today, 14 yesterday.
