3 decade dreamer! Finally getting there!!!

Hello everyone!
I remember like it was yesterday, sitting on my uncle’s bench, in his chicken run while visiting him in Oregon, from where we lived in California.
I sat there for hours, just watching. Fascinated. While my family chatted amongst themselves. I was completely content & at peace, sitting there, feeding those chickens.
I was 12 years old. I now find myself turning 42 this year, and I FINALLY have a piece of land where I can have chickens. In fact, it was one of the criteria for our house hunt in June. 😋
We finally found the property. We finally have the coop being delivered on Monday. My day-old chicks will be sent to us in February… carefully considered & chosen breeds. I’m beside myself!! I cannot believe it’s actually happening! This has been a dream of mine for so long! My 12 year old self probably wouldn’t have believed life would be such that this dream would become a reality, 30 years later. Maybe she would have lost hope, if she had known it would take this long? Maybe… But hey! We’re here! And I’m so excited to be a part of this chicken loving community! Thanks for all you’ve posted, recently & in the past. It all helps.
Many Blessings,
Crystal
Welcome to BYC!! ❤️

Welcome to BYC!

How exciting! Congrats and enjoy your chickens :) What kinds did you get?
I ordered from a farm I was familiar with, because my sister went to their chicken & quail class in Sebastopol CA, a family farm breeding operation called Alchemist Farm.
It seems very apparent to me how much they love what they do & how much they love their chickens. They breed for temperament, egg color & beauty. They aren’t cheap, but thought I’d go for exactly what I wanted, since I’ve been waiting so long!
I ordered 10 chicks…
(4) Azure Eggers (auto-sex - females)
(2) Alchemist Blue (auto-sex - females)
(2) Moss Egger (straight-run)
(2) French Black Copper Maran (straight-run)

I’m hoping to end up with at least one female from each of the straight run chicks. If we get lucky, our basket will be quite colorful! 😊
I was quite tempted by their Double Silver Laced Barnevelder… what a beautiful chicken! 😍 Maybe next time.

Me too! I absolutely love hearing about the different breeds & breeders/breeding programs!!! 😁
My sister & I could talk about that for hours. I don’t know anyone as obsessed with chicken breeds as myself & my sis. 😂
