3 eggs from 2 hens?

Can a hen lay more than 1 egg in a day? I checked the nest box in the morning and there were no eggs, In the late afternoon I checked again and there were 3 eggs! I only have 2 hens. I know that 1 of them didn't lay the day before, so maybe she layed 2 the next day?

Yes it's possible... especially when they first start laying and usually it's the prolific layers such as leghorns and sex links.

Both of my hens are sex-linked Golden Buffs, I think. Last summer they both layed everyday without fail.
