Just thought I'd add:
I'm guessing folks here are still thawing out after that surprise winter we had. For the record the Australorp will be going on 4 yrs old this April, she has a beautiful green sheen to her feathers, and she's the 'queen' of the flock. The Red Star lets her legs hang down when you pick her up, very cute. The Barred Rock is just a nice hen all-around. They're all good examples of their breeds. All are very healthy, good sized, and were raised alone as a little three-bird flock so they don't have any bad habits, injuries or diseases. They are generally quiet calm hens, not flighty and pretty smart for chickens. They only make noise after laying eggs or if the resident hawk is after them.
They're back out in their house and pen now -thank God, and much happier, but they still need to be re-homed because I was diagnosed with a major illness last year. I need to simplify my daily chores. I'm happy to let them go to any decent new home. Don't be afraid to ask if you have questions.
Hopefully with spring on it's way, folks will have chickens on the brain. You couldn't do better than these, they will give you many years of eggs and lovely manure for your garden. The Red Star and Barred Rock will be only 1 yr old this April.
