3 letter word spelled "F-O-X" - suggestions please!!!

Those foxes watch your schedule. They know when you're out and they know when you let them free range. If you want your yard safe, you'll have to put up some field fencing or figure out where the weak link is out there and see if you can improve it.

It still could be a hawk, last spring I went to lock mine up for the night and found 3 dead IN the coop, I was shocked and couldn't even find marks on them, this went on for a couple days until the little creep got himself caught in my netting on top of the run, it was a Small coopers hawk and after reading how the kill, they don't fly down all the time like a big hawk, if there is netting over top they will find a small area and get into the run and from behind with their hind legs will slam and break their necks, which is why he wasn't even leaving marks on them, a couple the next day he did, but this one seemed to kill more for sport than anything. When he got his leg caught he was chewing on a rooster 3x his size and I was looking right at him and it barely phased him...hawks are my biggest prob but I have crows this spring and seem to keep them away, I know it's not a sure thing but it does help. Im glad to feed them corn so they stick around
Oops forgot to quote Debm, which is who I was responding to

I have many experiences with foxes in the past. If he knows where he can find food he will come back.As soon as their pups are born he will show up more in the daytime to try a get a meal. A fox will even get brave enough and take a bird while you are with them in the yard. I respect the fact that you do not want to harm him, but apart from trapping and relocating him or killing him there is not much choice. Sorry, just my experience with them

Oh boy---we don't even own a gun.....

I'm thinking about getting a big gigantic guard dog!!!!

I know how you feel! We've seen a mama fox and her two kits next door in daylight, two days in a row, in my parent's driveway. She's apparently got a den overlooking my parents new house, which is just over the bank from my coop. I'm nervously watching my quarantine pen, which is not as secure as I would like, because it has 5 new pullets in it now and it's at the edge of the field we have our coop in. It's on the list to receive some serious upgrades next year, but right now I'm saving to buy good wire for our permanent run, so I've reinforced it with what I have on hand and I'm checking on them frequently.

It sounds like your coop and run are very secure, good job there! I'm not sure what you can do while they are free-ranging, other than being out with them all the time, or using tractor for the times you want them ranging.

Is that a pun on the "Fox" radio.... LOL

I will try that! I just want to keep them locked up for awhile though...
