3 month-old Brahma Pullet Keeps Panting

Hi there!

I have a 3 month-old Light Brahma pullet who seems to be in good health, other than the fact that I see her panting often.

I know they pant when they are hot outside, but I have seen her panting with her beak open even when she is inside in the air conditioning.
(She and her sisiter live inside for the time being, until the coop is finished).

I'm just concerned about her panting so much. Is this cause for concern, or is it just something normal?

Any advice would be appreciated!

If the pullet has absolutely no other symptoms of anything, then I would have to say she is either hot and you are unaware of the actual temp around her, or she is stressed. Unless she shows some other sign of something, you don't want to jump on assumption that she has some infection/fever. But if she does show things like chronic diarrhea, runny nose, coughing, any respiratory issue, weight loss, things of this nature, you might need to dose her with medications.

Check her over for mites around the vent, under the wings and behind the neck. Look her over for anything else that might not look right with her. If she is otherwise fine, then keep her as cool as possible, make sure she has cool water at all times and try to reduce any stress she may be under. (Dogs, cats, kids, all coming to close or too much handling of her).

I haven't noticed anything else except she does seem to be lying down a little more often than usual. Although, she seems to get up and act normal when she sees us.

I will try searching her for mites and keep an eye on the temperature.

She seems to be acting okay, and is eating and drinking, She even perked up for a mealworm treat earlier today.

I'm hoping her behaviors were just pullet practice nesting? She was laying down scratching in the shavings.
