3 month old female lovebird starts nesting behavior ?????????

We got a male lovebird around 1 1/2 years old about 2 weeks ago and then got a 3 month old female lovebird for him.We put a tissue box in their cage (for housing) and the 3 month old female is shredding the sides and bottom of the tissue box and is making bedding,we gave her toilet paper and she has dragged it all into her tissue box.Shes in there all the time sleeping in it and shredding it, the lady i got her from said she is 3 months old. She can fly and doesnt have any black on her beak.She is smaller and still is growing her feathers.BUT SHES ONLY 3 MONTHS OLD!!! why does she keep going into the nest box,why is she making bedding,is she 3 months or older? This is my first experience with lovebirds, please help.

Lovebirds are sexually mature around six months; some mature sooner and some later. My guess is that your hen is older than 3 months and wants to nest. It would be better for the lovebirds if you removed the box and any nesting material. What kind of lovebirds are they? Lovebirds nest in tree cavities/wooden nest boxes (cardboard boxes are too easily shredded). They shred paper and carry it into the box to make a nest. If you want your birds to breed successfully, wait until they are closer to a year old, give them a wooden nest box and paper to shred. Lovebirds feed their young by regurgitation and some soft foods make this process easier for the adults and simpler to digest by the chicks.

they are both peach faced mutations the male is a Seagreen and I think the female is a Blue.We just got them and i think she is 5-6 old not 3 months but she able to fly and still growing her feathers

Lovebirds can fly well before three months of age and at 5-6 months old she could be molting. Peach faced is what I raised. Remove the cardboard box and paper to slow the nesting instinct. Since it seems that their age is a bit uncertain, wait a few months before you allow them to nest. Young lovebirds will make a nest and produce eggs, but I found them to be lousy at parenting

Young lovebirds are not necessarily so predictable. Lovebirds do not have a particular “season” when they raise babies, so youngsters are available at any time of the year. The first molt of a baby lovebird depends on two factors – their age and the season. Baby lovebirds experience their first molt when they are between 4 – 8 months old, most commonly at about five or six months. The temperature and amount of daylight hours (both indicators of season) influence whether a baby will molt at five months of age or closer to seven months. As the baby matures and reaches about one year old, the molting cycles regulate and are influenced by the factors that control mature lovebird molts.
