I had a 3 month old hen start acting very tired for about a week, she layed down a lot, looked very sleepy and would not fly up into the coop at night with the rest of the hens, a few days ago I came home and she was dead. No other symptoms just seemed lethargic. All my other chickens are fine and healthy. I live in east Texas and West Nile is rampant here, there are 16 cases in my county in humans. I have researched west Nile in chickens but am having a hard time finding any info. My husband buried the chicken before I thought of trying to get it tested. Anyway, I'm more curious than concerned and I know that you can't contact it from the bird only from Mosquitos. Has anyone else had a chicken with west Nile and if so what were the symptoms? I just wonder what it was that killed my Lucy?

At that age and with those symptoms my first thought is Coccidiosis. Without a necropsy, however, it is anyone's guess at this point. So sorry for your loss. If you notice anyone else acting off, treat with Corid..just in case it is Coccidiosis.
