We have 2 RIR, and one silky that stick together within our flock. For the last few days, we've had a hard time finding Autumn. Everytime I do find her she's in the hen house sitting on someones eggs. She's not even laying yet. Yet whenever one of our older pullets lays an egg, she's on it! She turned 3 months old on the 23rd. Isn't she to young yet to be broody?

Little girls play house and like baby dolls. I think its just instinct. 2 of my pullets nest. One acts broody ( guarding her nest golfball like its the end of the world ) when shes nested on it. When something else attracts her attention shes back to normal.

If the pullet you are referring to is the silkie then yes it doesn't surprise me, mine went broody before they started laying too, sat in an empty nest together for over 2 months before finally giving up. They were just over 3 months when they did that.

sorry I forgot to mention it was one of the RIR's. But this morning when I went out I couldn't find Autumn once again. She was on the nest, and this time our little silky feather was with her too. ha ha
