3 New hens to introduce

My sister has 3 hens and just got 12 chicks. She doesn't want her hens anymore and wants to give them to me. I have 3 hens that I have had for 3 years. Her hens have missing feathers, one has a bare butt and they just don't look that good. Mine are robust and healthy and get along great. Should I even take her hens? I don't want to put my hens at risk. I read somewhere that you should just put the new hens in while the others are sleeping. Is that correct? Should I keep them separated for a while? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as she wants me to pick them up tomorrow.

Why are your sister's hens in such bad shape? If you do decide to take them, keep them separate from yours until you can figure out what's going on.

I don't know whats wrong with them. Maybe they're overcrowded? I have never had any issues with mine so I have no experience with chicken problems. How long should I keep them separate?
