We recently acquired 3 18mo hens from what we thought was a local small farm. I have since been told they are likely ex-battery hens.
They're all pretty rough looking, but 1 looks like she's half dead. She has a hard time eating and drinking due to her large comb.
We torpedo fed her a mix of turkey baby food, all flock pellets, and an egg last night till her crop seemed at least half full. I put out some scrambled eggs mixed with rooster booster with lactobacillus and some tuna today. She's pecked at it a bit, but it doesn't appear like she's managing to get much because her comb is in the way.
I mixed poultry cell in their water this morning too.
I have been told I should give them some ivermectin in case they have any worms, but am not sure about dosing or which type of ivermectin to get.
I've checked for mites and lice and don't see anything. Their poop appeared to be normal when we picked them up, but I did notice a little green poop this morning, but am not sure if I should assume it's due to parasites or lack of eating.
What all should be done to ensure these hens are getting back on their feet well?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
