3 RACCOONS ON OUR ROOF LAST NIGHT!!!

Here's a way to solve your problem AND put the raccoons to good use

My rooster had his head pulled off through a fence. Do your best with your chickens on security and you can set out traps and then move them far away from your home. Goodluck.

Coons love "nesting" in folks attics and they STINK.

Unlike Nifty, when I comes to coons, I probably don't have a heart and when I was growing up on the farm I dispatched one or two of them and wish I had dispatched more. They kill chickens, they ruin gardens and they make a general mess!

I read something recently about raccoons that made a lot of sense. There are three types of raccoons. There are the ones that live around you now. They have staked out their feed sources and their territory, and they guard both of these from other raccoons. They have not figured out/been able to get to your chickens, so they don't know that your chickens are yummy and easy to get. These are the best type to have around.
There are the raccoons that have figured out/been able to get into your coops and know that your chickens are yummy. They will work and work at getting into your coop and bring all their friends and relatives to help. These are the worse type of raccoons to have around--the only way to deal with them is to trap them, along with all the other friends and relatives, and get rid of them.
The last kind is the one that moves in inevitably when the others are trapped or die. He doesn't have a food source located yet, and so he is on the hunt. He may know that chickens are yummy. He is not as bad as the second, but not like the first.
The upshot is do everything you can to keep coons out of your coop, so you are not having to constantly trap (unless you have no problem doing that). Don't let them figure out how to get to your chickens.
