My chickens pretty much have the run of my entire ranch, so a good deal of their food comes from bugs & plants. But I also give them flock feed pellets, and laying pellets, and then sometimes cracked corn or scratch as treats. Anyway, I know that laying pellets are specifically for adult hens that are actively laying, and that roos arent supposed to eat it as a dietary staple. But mine do so daily & it concerns me as I dont want to compromise their long term health. How do other people deal with this? I am all ears.

I researched this on the purina website and they state that it is fine for roosters to eat their laying pellets. So I decided not to make it into an issue. My rooster was healthy and strong when I had to kill him because he was too hard on the hens.

That kind of sounded funny right there! What age was he?

MIne all eat the same food and a few of my roosters are 7 years old( Been eating layer food for all that time) so it wont hurt them.
This is good to hear, I feel a lot better now. Thanks.
