Right now we have 4 Barred Rocks. Unfortunately this was our first go at this whole chicken thing and so we got unsexed straight runs, not really knowing what that meant. I know now. :( Looking through the posts on sexing on here it looks like we have three roosters and only one hen so unless I am wrong about the sexing of these 4 we are looking for a home for 3 roosters and we have 3 more guaranteed pullets coming in a couple weeks. That said these three roos need to go.

Anyway here are the chicks @ 4-5 weeks we think.

Hello,

I stumbled across you message after doing a search for people located within or near Michigan. I was surprised to see Ovid-Elsie in the search results...as I live in Owosso.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not interested in any more chickens...I have way too many already...but wanted to point out something from your picture. From my understanding, Barred Rock chickens can be sexed based on the color of their feathers. Roosters carry a specific gene which causes their feathers to be much lighter than that of hens. If I'm correct I believe the one darker chicken in the second photograph would be a Barred Rock hen. Unfortunately, determining the sex of chickens can be extremely difficult so I might be wrong...but I'm optimistic he is really a she...

I hope this helps...and if you can't find them a loving home I would suggest you visit the local farmers market in Owosso (it should be starting about mid-April). I've known of several families who have purchased birds at events like this...

Thanks cnicho05. Yeah the pictures are bad, but there are actually 4 birds. Three we are pretty sure are roosters and one we think is a female. I think we have a home for the roos now too. Thanks for your help and advice.
