I just hatched my very first chicks in a homemade incubator. I read lots of methods of sexing them on this forum. I have 4 chicks. Here are the methods and results.

1) wing feather sexing: EE-1: male, EE-2: male, LB-male, RIR: female

2) ring on a string: EE-1: male, EE-2: male, LB-male, RIR: female

3) hang chick by the head: all 4 females

4) hang chick by the feet: EE-1: male, EE-2: male, LB-male, RIR: female

I don't know how to vent sex.

So, wouldn't it be interesting to see if these methods really are accurate?

What method do YOU use?

3)Lightly encircle the chicks neck with your index finger and thumb. Gently lift up. If the chicks legs hang down: girl, if the legs stick straight out: boy. I don't think this one works.
4) hold the chick by the legs and let hang. If the chick relaxes and hangs: girl. If the chick hold it's head up or struggles: boy.

Do you use the toe length method. I've started to use that and when tested against my adults seems to be pretty accurate.

Hold chick in hand using the underside of foot pinch toes one and three to the center of toe two.
If they are the exact same length - pullet
if one toe is longer than the other Cockrel

Have fun!!

I'm gonna try that one right now! Be right back!

That resulted in all 4 boys.

make sure your not pulling to one side or the other - then you'll get uneven toes lol!! Seriously though, if you put them so they are centered - pinching from the base where the toes web or grow together and slide your fingers up

I don' t know - I have some roos that are pretty sweet and some pullets that are pretty sour
