My neighbor has Royal Palm turkeys and the hen hatched 6 chicks this year.

I just adopted 2 chicks which maybe 3 to 4 weeks old today.
Before I did I was a little bit worried it is not right to take them away from the hen.
And after I took them home, they are so scared and wanted to hop out of the brooder very hard.

Should I bring them back to the hen? Is this a bad time to take them away?
Or they will be calm and can be tamed soon?

My thought was to take them home when they are little so they can be tamer.
But watching them struggle and calling in my brooder made me feel guilty.

What should I do ?

baby birds are very vocal that time is perfect to adopt chicks like all baby animals they will make a fuss for the first few days even a up to a week but they will learn that where they are is home soon enough. and bless you for brooding inside i wouldn't also you do have the feeders\waterier and small teddy bear in the brooder to ease separation anxiety? the teddy bear seems dumb to some people but i think it help a bit.

Let them see you alot &, more importantly, start hand feeding them fluttering moths (the need to go after `moving' prey overcomes most anxiety). Just remember to bring in a few for them every morning...

Was your neighbor feeding them a gamebird starter? If not, borrow a couple cups of the neighbor's feed and just work in more of the Starter over a week, or so until that's all they're getting (should be about 28%-30% protein).
