Good Morning Everyone.. Since we are on the topic. I just got 3 new little chicks [Americana, English Bantam, and a Cochin] I got them this past Friday evening so ive only had them a couple days. They're first night they had unmedicated feed since there was only a little left in the bag to finish and since i couldnt find the non-medicated brand at the store, i got the medicated last night. Everyone was fine then but this morning i go out and find that my Americana was pooping blood and maybe some stool. The other chicks she was housed with seemed fine though [for now i assume!] After reading about what it could be ill be out there, after i post this, cleaning the cage out. There was quite the puddle when i went out and i had started wiping it up with a rag we had so im sorry if this might not all be viable. There was still a little left in the cage after i got the majority out and thats what the second picture is.

We had fed them some small corn the other day too [just some random veggies we had left over in the fridge] before we got the medicated food [really really glad i got the medicated food]
What do i do now? I have the girl isolated from her companions but now i am worried because i had gotten 4 other chicks the previous weekend [was trying to get them used to each other by being in the same cage only with a divider] and they share the same cage technically and that cage is inside the main coop to keep them dry and out of the rain. Would this little chick end up infecting ALL my chickens!? All the chicks are on the medicated right now...but my Hens just started their egg laying diet. Can someone advise me? This is all new to me.

Ps. This chick is probably about 3 weeks old...

Just to be clear, none of the veggies fed were beets, right? Because if that's all blood, the chick is very ill. Medicated feed is too low of a dose to treat a cocci infection. You'll need to buy Amprolium (often sold as a powder for cattle called Corid) and treat the sick one and any that were able to peck at this chick's droppings. I don't believe it can spread by air.

That's an awful lot of bloody poop. I don't know if you will save that bird. Treat them all with a course of Corid ASAP, as in, yesterday would have been better.

Get it at the feed store, sometimes in the cattle section, though they might stock the liquid in the poultry section. Either one is fine. Dose for powder is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5 to 7 days. Liquid is 9.6 ml per gallon, same duration. Make it up fresh every day. Treat them all.

Thanks everyone! All our feed stores were closed today so tomorrow ill be out to get it ASAP. Her stool is looking fairly normal now and so far the others are looking good too. For good measure im still going to pick it up and treat them. If they dont have it, would it hurt them if i gave it to them?

And no, none of the veggies were beets. It was left over pineapple rinds, baby corns, and some celery. They all didnt really eat too much of any of it. Mostly the corns.
