Hi all,
I have a 3 week old Speckled Sussex pullet. She was fine until Sunday. That afternoon I noticed her droppings were very liquidy with greenish-grey looking feces in them. She hasn't had a normal dropping since then.
She's drinking, but I don't think she's eating. She walks around (but not as much as normal, or as much as her companion). Her head is hunched down and I don't see her lifting it up and craning to look out of the box like she did before. And today I noticed that she's tilting her head back as though to drink and making swallowing motions (but without having taken a drink).
My first thought was an impacted crop -- they chicks are in a brooder box, but on pine shavings, so I guess she could have swallowed one. I don't feel anything unusual in her throat or chest, but chicks are so bony at this age that I'm not sure whether that's a good indicator.
Her last droppings tonight (about 15 minutes ago) had no mass to them. Just liquid. Oh, and I'm feeding medicated chick feed, so I can't imagine it's something that requires antibiotics. . .?
Any suggestions?
Lynda
