3 week old silkie chick acting strange, curling neck under

GREAT NEWS! After only a few days of treatment w/ vit. E as well as polyvisol drops, Zena, our little black silkie seems totally fine and back to normal. We did not separate her, but I could see the benefit of that as she did get stepped on a bit. She's a tough little warrior and seems to have bounced back quite nicely! Thank you all so much for your advice. It worked!

My silkie roo went through this a couple weeks ago. Now he is just perfect again. Although he is much friendlier from all the extra handling while I was feeding him the vitamins and helping him lift his head to eat and drink.

24 hours after I started the Poly ViSol (without iron) I could lift his head and he would be able to hold it up. then I would offer him food and drink which I would hold up to him so he didn't have to put his head so far back down. I kept his dishes available to him all the time but I think he spilled most of it rather than actually eating. on the 3rd day he seemed alot better so I put hom back with all the rest.

So glad I got that advice in such a hurry.

Hello. I thought I would add to this post as, just today, I had a silkie chick of about 1 week in age die of what was, apparently, wry neck. We just got him on Sunday. He started showing symptoms of this, that I noticed, on Monday and today he has passed. I am new to both chickens and these forums, so I was not able to catch it fast enough, apparently.

I now have a second chick showing these symptoms. I am led to believe that this is NOT a contagious disease, but would like to know if I am wrong in this. I don't understand why another one is doing it as well, other than that silkies are more susceptible to it. Hopefully I have caught him on time. I have started him on Poly Vi Sol and he is still eating and drinking. If I hold his head up for him, for just a few seconds, he will "right" himself and go about his business. Although, it isn't long before he curls up again.

I hope others have managed well with the wry neck conditions. Hopefully this will be the last of it for me!!

i am sorry you lost the little one, as far as the other one- i would think you caught it in time- it is a vitamin deficiency not a desease, or so i've been told- my little one it took about 2 days to get back to normal-
