3-week pullet unable to stand

My husband and I bought some chicks to put under our broody hen so she could raise them along with her own. She rejected one that day, but did fine with five others for about a week. Then, she turned on two of the chicks that were a little older and injured them. We took them out of the brooder with Mama Hen, and put them in a brooder with the other rejected chick (and the others we bought to keep her company 😅).

When we put them in the 2nd brooder, one of the chicks had a wound on her back and the other had a worse looking wound on her wing. But, both were up and moving around the brooder without any trouble. The next day, the one with the wounded wing was down. Her wings were droopy, she didn’t want to stand, and she seemed to topple forward or side to side when she tried to move. She was making an effort to get around, and seemed able to reach the food and water. The next day (yesterday) she was weaker and seemed to be struggling to breathe. I started (carefully) offering her water via an eye dropper. She drank well and perked up a little. If I sat her down near the food, she would eat. Today she looked a little rough this morning, and had less of an appetite. This afternoon, though, she was eating better when I offered food close to her and she was drinking well from the eye dropper. She still won’t stand up, though.

I’ve checked for other wounds and dont see anything. Her wing wound has closed up and doesn’t seem overly painful. Nothing appears broken. She just seems weak and clumsy. None of the other chicks, including the other pullet we rescued from the hen, have any similar symptoms. I haven’t noticed any watery poop, either.

We are feeding a decent quality chick starter crumble, providing water with probiotics, and have been using a bit of VetRx to waylay any respiratory issues (one of the other chicks had a little cough and wheeze when we got it).

So, any thoughts on what could be going on? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Can you post some photos of the chick, the wounds and her poop?

I would continue to keep her hydrated. Give her Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell direct dose.

Hard to know what's going on with her if it's injury related, disease or developmental issue. Hopefully we can offer more suggestions.

Thanks for your reply. She actually passed away overnight. 😢 Our guess is some sort of internal injury.
Now I just have to talk my husband out of four more baby Speckled Sussex to replace her, because of course, we can’t buy just one. 😂
