3 year old Starlight Green Egger

Probably just nicked a blood vessel then.

If you feel she needs to be drained some more, then you can try again.
I am going to try in a bit. I don't know if she keeps filling up with fluid, or if I didn't get enough out. I know I have rarely seen her drink water in the last few weeks, but after I drained her, she went right to the waterer. She does eat and she trolls the yard free ranging. The fluid I took out was a gold/yellow. I just left the needle in for a bit and drained it into pan rather than sticking her multiple times. I would say 3 cups at least and she is not a big bird. She is a trooper though, and very cooperative.I have an antibiotic powder I got from the vet after the last bad bumblefoot surgery that I will use on the syringe hole instead of new skin.

AND I really really appreciate your advice and help in this group. You have saved my chickens more than once and there are not a lot of places to turn for help with them. I'm paying it back though, since anyone with chicken issues seems to get referred to me now!

I soaked her in epsom salt water first. She kinda likes that. Then dried her and wrapped her in a baby towel. Then the syringe and I left the needle in and got about two cups out. I removed the needle and she was dripping-she moved one way and the fluid was squirting out. Yellow, no blood, no odor. I patted the syringe point with the antibiotic powder and she seemed kind of amazed that she didn't have to waddle. She thinks I'm a paranoid freak. When I don't see her for a while I'm yelling for "Rita Hayworth!" She was grasshoppering in the field, which is a good sign. She responded to today's treatment way better -and didn't run to drink water right away either. At least she is enjoying things again. She even pecked a flockmate! I know it is a short term fix, but I can't regret it. I would do that and more to see her comfortable.

I drained her a third time a week ago. She is much better this week. She was chasing another hen around trying to get a snake away from her. LOL. I hope she has a little more life in her. She worked too hard laying eggs every day to have it just kill her. I feel like she kind of wanted me to just give up and leave her alone to die, but I just couldn't do it.

I'm glad she's doing better.

She is still alive and doing well. Hopefully she is not going to lay any more eggs. She can retire now and have fun.

I found her dead under her perch this morning. The last drain didn't do anything for her, but the fluid was not dark. She had a good free ranging summer. At least I bought her that time.
