Have your babies started hatching? How many are you up to so far? I had an awesome hatch from her eggs, 35 out of 36 made it into lockdown, and 27 of those hatched. I thought that was amazing! I have some real cuties in my brooder, and I am falling in love with the little Speckled Sussex! I didn't think I would, but they are so gentle and sweet, it's hard not to! I sat this evening with a little roo (yes, he has figured out how to rule the waterer, and yesterday figured out how to escape the brooder!), and he just curled up on my chest and enjoyed being rubbed and held. Soooo sweet! The Marans are brats, but sweet brats, lol. But my experience with Marans so far is that they are brats as chicks, but grow up to be calm, wonderful birds, so if I can survive their "childhood", I should have some great birds when they are adults. I also have some sweet little mixed bantams from that hatch and what appears to be a BO mix that is so beautiful. It's a lovely honey color, deeper in color than a typical BO, and just a cute little fluff ball. I love my babies, and when I have more money she knows I'll be back to get some more from her!

I got 20 chicks so far & a couple left to go.The second batch will hatch in about 14 days I just can't wait. I took my 13 pr/black copper marans to the big coop today & they love it.I got 2 more sets of eggs coming so my pen & pasture is going to be full.O well I guess 'I'll sell some and start over.

That's what I'm doing, selling off some of the chicks that hatched that weren't breeds that I intended to keep, so that I can get more of the breeds that I want. I NEED more Marans (like I need a hole in my head, lol) so I'm selling chicks of other breeds so that I can save up money and get more. 20 so far is really good. Of the 27 that hatched out, 2 didn't make it out of the incubator. I think that's sad when that happens. One Sussex chick died about 3 days old, and a little Bantam that I'm pretty sure was the only pure Silkie in the bunch, died about a week after hatching. It's funny cause the Bantam that I expected to die, is still alive and kicking. It's one that I expected to live that died! I have this itty bitty Bantam, and it's so tiny that after 2 weeks it's still smaller than my thumb! It's probably an OEGB/Silkie mix. It's a sweet little thing that I named Velvet because it's as soft as velvet. Good luck with the rest of your hatch. I hope a whole bunch more hatch out for you. Did you get any of her SS in your order? Cause those chicks are the sweetest little things! Even the little roos! I'm very happy with my birds.

I did get some and I think about 6 out of 8 hatch out had a copper marans chick hatch after 24 days and now I got 1 more chick trying to hatch after day 25.Ionly have a black copper marans roo now and my chicks can't wait to get my own dark brown eggs. thank you little grey bantam:lol:

Hey thanks guys!

OH BTW, in case you guys are curious, I have FBCM eggs up for $20 a dozen
wink.png

Cheapest they'll be for awhile!

I'm still fumbling around with birds! I have birds flying out of my ears!

I sold 26 chicks in the last two weeks

and a rooster.
Another 5 should be leaving this week (the roosters) as pets
smile.png

We're cutting back down on roosters to get more birds for the farm for the breeding program, so... keep your eyes opened!

Stuff is still pretty rocky (how come life has all these things you need to finish?) but keeping busy should keep me sane lol
Anyways, I'm glad you guys got such good hatch rates!

Terry, thanks SO much for giving me a head's up on email; sorry I haven't gotten back, just busy with things.
I'll write you a more better email in a few days or so.

And thank you BOTH for watching my back for me! I'm sorry you were yelled at (Terry) but you have no idea what it means to me that you both were watching out for me.
THIS IS WHY I adore BYC people (or at least most of them). Particularly the best chicken people out there!

Christine, let me know what sort of cochins you have! I may have people who may be interested!
Iono if you'll wanna ship chicks out, but I can help you out with supplies and what not and in how to do it!
big_smile.png

Heck, I could just lie to you and buy 'em myself. They're too cute!

Keep me updated; if I'm gone, it's usually life lol I'm sure you both know!

If I wasn't dead broke you know I'd jump on those Marans eggs. But my bank account is in the negative.

Of the 4 Marans chicks that hatched from your eggs, only 2 were FBCM. The two Cuckoo hatched. I'm hoping and praying that both Cuckoos are pullets. I think I might have a pair with the FBCM, but not sure yet. Man, $20, I WISH I had the money. I'm going to go cry and be mad at myself for being broke now...

Oh, and the colors of Cochins I have are:
Blue Splash
Mottled
White (hen is frizzled)
Barred
Plus a black hen that is frizzled
Partridge chick in brooder now, think it's a roo, but not sure, but it's going in to one pen cause I was told it will throw blacks, so I'll keep it around for awhile, lol.

I also have Black Mottled in my bator as well as Lavender and Cinnamon Reds, but providing they hatch, I'm NOT selling the Lavenders or the Reds. Instead I'll be offering their eggs next year! The Cochin colors that I've hatched out so far are Black, Blue, Barred, and Splash. I also get Cochin/Silkie crosses. It seems that it's my Black Mottled roo mounting my White Silkies as the chicks come out charcoal gray.

I finally cleaned out my bator & I got 23 babbies. I wished that I could tell the difference between them but I really don't care. Just heard from Donna at bayhorsebonnie & my dozen black copper marans should be here tomarrow:lol: So I hope to get me some pure stock & maybe sell some eggs. Little Grey BANTAM your eggs are great and I'll be doing business with you as soon as I get my bator empty. The other lady email me and said she did not know how to leave postive feed back and ask me to tell you that the eggs were in good shape & the color was good. So I say good luck to you and your family &
