New chicken Mom here.
I put my eggs under someone’s 2 broody hens a month ago (my hens weren’t broody at the time and I wanted my injured rooster’s babies). 2 chicks out of about 18 hatched last Tuesday night and Thursday. I brought 8 of the unhatched eggs home 2 days ago and put them under my broody on the tiny chance they might still hatch. I brought the 2 chicks home today and the hen accepted them! When I went to remove the remaining unhatched eggs (because it’s day 31) I tapped and gently shook each one, 1 of them moved and peeped! I am shocked! I put it back under my hen but should I be helping it? I don’t think you’re supposed to right? How on earth can it still be alive?! Any advice?

It's possible it's a different egg/didn't get set until a while after you placed them there. At 31 days anything in the eggs would be dead. That's really really overdue. Watch for any signs of an external pip, and also give it a candle when you get a chance!

It’s very much alive (I felt it moving and heard it cheeping!) and it’s definitely one of mine (because I wrote on them) but maybe it’s possible that it was on the edge and didn’t get warmed until a week after we placed them there🤷‍♀️

No external pip yet and when I candled it it was dark and full.

Day 33 and it hatched!😂👍🏻💗💫🤷‍♀️ An experienced chicken breeder told me today it’s definitely possible if it was on the edge of the nest and took a week to reach temperature. Crazy!
Didn't know that about them being on the edge. I have a similar situation, thanks for sharing the hope!
