Should I sharpen the cleaver for the 32 week-old Cockoo Maran who has yet to lay a single egg? Are they a particularly late maturing variety and I just need more patience?

She acts normal and eats with gusto; what might the problem be?

any advice??

thanks - Larissa

Can you be 100% certain she is not laying? Could she be hiding the eggs? Could something be eating them?

I guess it's possible shes not put toghether right, but also that she's just a late bloomer.

I don't think it's possible that she is hiding them - they live in a 4x8 moveable chicken tractor. But I guess if they are being laid somewhere else (in a corner), they could be eaten by something (snake?)

Hmmm...

Any other ideas?

Can you see the inside of her nesting box? Is it possible she is eating them? I have heard of chickens doing that. They even love the shell.
Just a thought.

Believe it or not I had two hens lay at 41 and 42 weeks!!!! I thought I was going crazy or I just had a broken chicken. They just took a long time to lay. Now I get one a day from each. They are the most beautiful eggs too. In fact, the 42 weeker is the hen in my avatar. They are both Ameraucana/Easter Eggers.
