They are native to the Yucatan, and perhaps elsewhere in Mexico/Central America. They are really a beautiful turkey, but I've heard from friends who have hunted them that their behavior is different from the other North American turkeys, I also heard that they either do not gobble, or gobble very differently from other turkeys.

Second hand info. I've fished in the Yucatan alot, but have never seen one.
