This is the bottle we use in our chicken brooders and quail cages here on our family farm. I love not having to dump out icky water! These bottles can rest on the bottom of your chick brooder or for best results, mount them using our optional hand crafted metal mounting bracket. Say goodbye to soiled water and wet chick bedding! The QCU Poultry Drinker Bottle is readily accepted by day old chickens. If their first water experience is with the horizontal nipple from day one, there is no learning curve. (We do use our QCU Poultry Drinker Cup for super tiny babies like quail for 7 days) Show your babies where the water is like a mother hen, dip their beaks a few times just like with a cup drinker and they will get it. If they are used to a conventional drinker it might take a day for them to learn because birds love to "gulp" and get their feet in the water bowl. Once one understands how to sip at the droplets coming out of the nipple the others will copy and will get plenty of CLEAN water to drink. Place the bottle so the nipple is at eye level for best results. Raise the bottle as your chicks grow.

How does it work? The metal pin at the center of the nipple will release a small amount of water when the chick pecks. The small indentation under the pin collects the drops and the chick drinks. It doesn't take long for them to figure it out since they are naturally attracted to the red plastic. Once one bird learns, they teach all of the others.

Other Uses: Bantam cages, travel carriers, adult or juvenile game bird pens, and broody hen nests.

I've had people ask, so here is an example of an "outside mount bracket" setup going into a plastic brooder tote. The same bracket and bottles can go through wire if the wire width will allow the size of the port to go through into the cage. The feeder and horizontal nipple bottles can then be re-filled by simply unscrewing the lid from the outside. The drinker cup has to be removed and re-filled in the sink because removing the lid breaks the necessary vacuum seal.

I got this with some new chicks yesterday.

Im concerned that they are not strong enough to engage the spring loaded nipple to release water.

I check on them about once every 2 hours or so and it seems like they are all gathering around the water cooler. I see them peck at the nipple, but it does not look like they are getting a drink. When I depress the nipple they seem to run over and all get their fill, kicking their head back and drinking away.

Im completely, 100% new to raising chicks so I really dont know whats going on. I watched the above video of the chicks pecking away and mine look identical. pecking away, but never rearing their head back and drinking.

Anyone have any advise to share? Im I overly concerned? Thanks in advance for your response.

How old are the chicks? You won't see water dripping out. They nudge the pin to the side rather than pushing it in.

How does the drinker cup work? Like how does the water not all flow out? Can you fill the water to the top and it will not pour out?
What is it made with? I live in Canada and would like to make some for my chicks I'm getting
