Just a friendly reminder for the new hatchers: make sure to clean AND disinfect your incubator prior to either storing it or putting it back into use.

I use a 3 step system: first clean with bleach, then with an antimicrobial soap (like chlorhexidine or triclosan), let dry for 24 hours, then wipe with chlorox clean up wipes (NH4 based). If I store it, I repeat the same prior to use.

What does everyone else use/do?

I use soap & water...then trek trol, then air dry between every hatch. It is a Brinsea, plastic, easy to clean.


Here are my chicks moved into the playpen... now it doesn't even look like there are so many.

Since you asked, Melissa, I'm more than happy to provide a Kowalski (aka T-Rex Duck, Duckzilla) update.

If you remember, this little duckling rode into town on the Christmas train just a few days after birth.

Now... this duckling dwarfs the same o-gauge train. Sorry the background isn't as beautiful this time around... my kitchen is messy and so is the duckling. I'm glad he pooped on the (easily cleaned and sterilized) tile counter top instead of somewhere else.

I use dawn Antibacterial to give it a good scrubbing then let dry and use the Oxine but someone here suggested a different product but I can't find the post again and with 350+ pages it'll take awhile

So sorry to hear about wet pox hen- I'm sure she's happy in Chicken Heaven where the cobblestones are sweet corn! You did the right thing.

Congrats to all, and I still have 3 hatching. I pipped the air cell on 2 and found they're slow to develop but have bright red veins still, so I'm letting them go. It's not like I haven't got hundreds incubating for later, anyway...as if my incubators ever shut off! Ha!

I'm on big doses of Dayquil today. Hubby and a friend took care of my flocks yesterday, but I have to get going today. Left ear seems to have blown out overnight, and adenoids à flambé thing is really annoying, but when I know no one will take care of my birds to my specs, I have to go...and then pass out.

I had 1 hatch yesterday, 2 sometime in the wee hours of this morning .
3 more about to pop right now, and 2 more pipped. Americanas and GLCochin Bantams.
